Wanderlust

Together with the nature park "Voges du Nord", the biosphere reserve Pfälzerwald, recognized by UNESCO, covers about 3000 sq km. Flora and fauna are unique in Central Europe and inspire every nature lover. Many historic castles, tree-top and barefoot paths unique in Europe, striking sandstone rocks and 2500 km of well-marked hiking trails make the Palatinate Forest a hiker's paradise. Should you get the wanderlust during your stay with us, we can warmly recommend the following two hiking trails:

Mountain bike park

Over 900 km of signposted mountain bike trail network in the Pfälzerwald Biosphere Reserve Nature Park. The mountain bike park is located in the middle of the Pfälzerwald Nature Park and thus the largest, contiguous forest area with the most impressive red sandstone landscape in Germany. A nature paradise for passionate mountain bikers - "experienceable" in every season. The Pfälzerwald Mountain Bike Park: that's dreamy, winding trails, rapid alternation of steep climbs and technically challenging descents, impressive views and vistas and romantic castles. Of course, even as a non-mountain biker, there are versatile routes to choose from to experience the beauty of our region.

Pedelec E-Bike Tours

Fancy a bike tour, but too much respect for the seven Pirmasens hills? No problem! Borrow a pedelec and experience pleasure cycling in perfection. The modern bicycles will carry you with a "built-in tailwind" through Pirmasens and the unique landscape of the Southwest Palatinate region to neighbouring France to Bitsch. A built-in electric motor supports the natural pedalling motion as desired, thus enabling you to cycle at any time in the comfort zone. One battery charge provides the power for 80 - 100 unforgettable kilometres.

This special cycling experience costs 19 euros for a full day or 9.50 euros for a half day (season: May to October). Ideal routes include the new 24.5 km Dynamikum circular route (Outdooractive: Dynamikum Rundweg), which starts directly at the Dynamikum Science Center, and the 41 km cross-border Pirmasens-Bitche "le vent dans le dos" (Outdooractive: Pirmasens-Bitche Radweg), which also starts at the Dynamikum Science Center.

Charming parks

Strecktalpark

The Strecktal Park was built in 1998/2001 on the redevelopment site of the former tannery Gebrüder Fahr AG. Originally planned as the core site for the 2000 Rhineland-Palatinate horticultural show application, a varied, multifunctional landscape park was created, inviting visitors to relax, stroll, play, etc. and bordering directly on the city centre. The heart of the park is the Poissy Garden with its rich perennial plantings, which is named after the French twin town Poissy. Other landscape elements such as a natural pond, a meadow with old fruit varieties, a small waterfall and streams enrich the park. For the leisure and fitness area, there is a Kneipp pool, a lake stage, an adventure and water playground as well as various facilities for trend sports and a skate park. Since 2015 the park has been the starting point for the Pirmasens-Bitsch cycle path. As part of an EU-funded project, several outdoor exhibits of the Dynamikum were set up as experimental stations and a disc golf course with 15 stations was created, as well as a geogarden and a senior citizens' activity area.

Rose Garden Zweibrücken

It makes Zweibrücken the "Rose City": The Rose Garden is a place of relaxation and deceleration in the heart of the city. Europe's rose garden is a park of more than 50,000 m², in which more than 60,000 rose bushes of 2,000 different varieties are arranged. The park is one of the largest gardens in Europe and is the third largest rose garden in the world. The park was opened in 1914 by Princess Hildegard of Bavaria. Throughout the summer, the visitor is presented with a variety of rose varieties in the varied scenery of the rose garden, which is dominated by ponds, shrubs and plants. The third weekend in June, when the roses blossom, marks the beginning of the so-called Zweibrücker Rosentage. But the park is also worth seeing in early spring when the spring flowers blossom and from the beginning of April when the wild roses blossom. Every Sunday afternoon from May to September there are performances of the Rose Garden concert series.

WAWI CHOCOLATE WORLD

The chocolate factory WAWI offers many interesting things about the "sweetest temptation" and is a popular destination not only before Easter and Christmas. Those who like it sweet are always in the right place. How is the chocolate bunny actually born? Is he vain because he has to wear make-up? What belongs on a real Palatinate battlefield? This and much more can be found out on a guided tour through the glass production facility and in the small chocolate museum - including a tasting in the modern café, of course. Buying chocolate at a bargain price is a great pleasure on the way home.
